IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT ME...

(Actually, this bit is).

I help organisations to communicate better.

 

Internally, to improve culture and business cohesion. Externally, to improve marketing and sales. With the overall goal of building brand and company value.

 

I've spent half of the last 30 years working for some of the world's best marketing services agencies (BMP, Saatchi & Saatchi, MediaCom) and with some of the world's best marketers (GSK, P&G, Mars). And the other half helping to run sporting and financial services companies in board-level marketing, sales and commercial roles. 

 

In 2016 I decided to leave the corporate world and 'go plural', working on a diverse range of projects.

 

I'm primarily interested in helping companies with limited resources to get more out of their marketing and communications activity. And, through my alliance with Integration (global leaders in marketing accountability), in working with larger organisations who want to better measure and manage all of their marketing investments. I'm also working with a number of organisations who are keen to harness my general commercial and management experience.

I work on either a project or on a retained basis if ongoing, experienced input is required. See below for some examples of recent projects.

I'm based in Suffolk and London (but travel well) and I'm always happy to discuss whether I can help over a cuppa. If I don't think I'm right for you (or vice versa) I will tell you - and try to help you find someone who is.

Marketing's primary role is to facilitate sales. Whether you're selling beer or Brexit, marketing communications need to be built around a great idea, based on real insight and executed in the most impactful way in the most appropriate channel and at the right time. And customer acquisition and retention strategies need to work in harmony. I can help make this happen, working with both internal teams and external agencies. If appropriate I can draw upon my affiliation with Integration, providing access to world-class, quantifiable, marketing communications audit and planning tools that will improve marketing ROI.

Every business needs a roadmap - and to be able to regularly read it and make course corrections when necessary. Sometimes it's easy to lose sight of the company direction with the urgency of day-to-day operations. If you need some fresh inputs into drawing up your roadmap, or help in better navigating your business's direction, or for someone to facilitate your team planning sessions, give me a call.

Or involutus manica collegerat (sleeves rolled up) as the Romans used to say. If you've got something that needs to be done, rather than just planned, then I can help. I like nothing better than getting a brief and getting stuck in. Especially if it's something that involves change. I don't stand on ceremony. I've got a safe pair of hands and a great book of contacts if outside help is needed. And I'm pretty good at not stepping on toes.

Sometimes it helps to have someone to share ideas or worries with and to discuss how best to develop or resolve them. And sometimes it helps to do that with someone who's not so caught up in the day-to-day forest that they can still see the trees. I've worked in sectors including marketing services, sports and entertainment, retail, lottery, catering, conference and hospitality and finance. And delivered solutions for companies in areas including FMCG, energy, OTC, alcohol, film, IT and technology. The plus-side of having grey hair is the experience that goes with it.

SOME RECENT PROJECTS

Sales & Marketing Support

Produced a series of sector reports for the EMEA sales team of a US software company. Provided  sector briefings based on expert interviews, recommending 

sales strategy hooks tailored to key sector needs.

Interim Management

Four month project providing management support for a travel company's marketing department, with projects encompassing digital, email, advertising, PR, social media, direct mail, research and database management. Subsequently providing ongoing support.

Commercial Project Delivery 

Providing experienced management support to an organisation, managing the delivery of some specific marketing and international development projects, including website creation. Also providing ad hoc marketing and sales advice.

Business Development

Retained by a global software solutions company in the marketing communications sector to help grow their business through improved marketing and new customer acquisition.
